REACT Project

Recycling is an increasingly common word, but not yet effectively addressed in the EU, where landfill and incineration rates remain high. One of the main problems is to have a secondary raw material that comes as close as possible to the virgin one, despite the contaminations, treatments and deteriorations that can worsen the performance of the product.

The REACT project addresses the management of acrylic fabric waste from awnings and outdoor furniture. A crucial issue is the analysis and removal of finishing substances that affect the purity of the secondary raw material and their management. A mechanical recycling process will also be implemented to obtain second life fibers and fabrics, whose performance will be tested for best application.

The ultimate goal is to find a new process to remove hazardous chemicals from finished acrylic fabrics using innovative investigation and processing techniques and to obtain a fully compatible recycled acrylic fabric for reuse.

To maximize the impact of the project results, recommendations for recycling process implementation, standards, design, and technology transfer will be produced.
