[:en] Focusing on boosting environmental performance and involving the entire value chain, OLGA will develop innovative sustainable measures to reduce both airside and landside emissions of airports, with proven scalability and EU-wide applicability. OLGA is committed to achieving the reduction of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, the improvement of air quality, the conservation of biodiversity, the reduction of energy consumption and sustainable construction concepts. Already in the first three years quantifiable progress is expected, thus accelerating the exploitation of the results. OLGA partners (airports, airlines, freight operators, aviation industry, research, SMEs) combine extensive experience to solve the complex challenge. The consortium comprises 42 partners from eight EU countries. It is led by Groupe ADP (Aéroports de Paris), with Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport as the leader. Other participating airports are Milan Malpensa, Zagreb and Cluj. The project also includes a 29-member Advisory Board, which includes universities, airlines and carriers, airports, industry, and local governments. Advisory board members will provide feedback on project activities, expert advice and carry out evaluations of the project results. In this context, CENTROCOT will carry out actions included in WP4 (Teminal area – Waste reduction) and will work closely with Malpensa airport to promote the circularity of waste by borrowing the experience gained in other projects, making available a laboratory (Multilab) able to treat and manage waste and using the M3P (Material Match Making Platform) industrial symbiosis tool to optimize waste management. CENTROCOT’s objectives will be: The solutions, results and methodology used by CENTROCOT, for the OLGA project, can be transferred to the consortium member airports and will be replicable on a European scale. Therefore, the solutions obtained in OLGA are intended to guide real actions aimed at reducing CO2, improving air quality and conserving biodiversity with the involvement of the entire value chain of the aeronautical sector. The European Union funded OLGA to facilitate the transition to low-carbon mobility in order to make the aeronautical sector resilient to climate change.
The European Commission (EC), as part of the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program, has approved the OLGA – hOListic Green Airport project. OLGA aims to reduce the environmental impact of aviation, thus facilitating the transition to low-carbon mobility and a climate-resilient society in line with the EU’s Green Deal.
