[:en] The new experimental laboratory will be in the prestigious Malpensa Fiere building and when fully operational will occupy around 1000 m2. Centrocot considered it strategic to transfer its research, R&D, experimentation, and training activities to the multifunctional MalpensaFiere exhibition centre in Busto Arsizio, physically separating the historic core-business activities (testing and certification) from those carried out as part of research and innovation projects financed by the European Union, the Lombardy Region or requested by companies. These activities are aimed at fostering the development of new applications, testing of new materials and the growth of technical skills in companies and young people who have not yet entered the world of work. In the first half of 2022, activities dedicated to: – Treatment and recycling of textile waste with specific machinery for the milling, pre-treatment and transformation of pieces, offcuts, selvedges, and post-consumer fabrics. – Study of polymers and composites, both from an analytical point of view, with specific instrumentation, and from the point of view of transformation processes, with particular attention to the recycling and reuse of waste plastic materials of various origins and nature. – Additive manufacturing to manufacture products by means of 3D printing (FDM Fused Deposition Modeling technology). – Biodegradability, for the experimental study of the biodegradability of textile materials. They have been transferred from the Sant’Anna site: – Area “Smart Textiles” for the realisation of textile artefacts with built-in functionalities for the transmission and communication of signals and information and the implementation of specific operations. – 3D Printing’ area (additive manufacturing) to produce components and accessories. Studies for the use of materials from recycling phases are in progress and will be expanded. Polymers” area, with two new laboratory extruders and equipment for the characterisation of thermoplastic materials. – Emel” area, currently equipped with two semi-anechoic chambers, one to assess the sound absorption capacity of a fabric/composite material, the other the shielding capacity of electromagnetic waves. For further information on the various areas of the new Multilab, please read the dedicated articles in this newsletter and contact the Multisectoral Research and Innovation Area: – Omar Maschi, PhD, omar.maschi@centrocot.it – Daniele Piga, PhD, daniele.piga@centrocot.it – Paolo Ghezzo, paolo.ghezzo@centrocot.it Author: Roberto Vannucci Multisectoral Research and Innovation Manager In questo primo semestre 2022 sono operative le attività dedicate a: Sono state trasferite dalla sede di Sant’Anna: Area “Polimeri”, con due nuovi estrusori da laboratorio e attrezzature per la caratterizzazione dei materiali termoplastici. A new laboratory dedicated to the development of innovative technologies and cutting-edge tests for the treatment and study of recycling, industrial innovation and the development of tests on secondary raw materials and new materials both of textile origin and from other production sectors.
The new Multilab space, shared with Centrocot’s Training Area to create new skills on the subject, aims to respond to companies’ requests regarding research, innovation and recycling. The site will house various “recycling study” lines on a laboratory scale with a view to research and development and will be constantly evolving to keep pace with the constant demands of the market.
